Rosenborg vs Celtic preview, free betting tips and prediction: Celtic want to avoid a potential banana skin in Norway
Rosenborg @ 23/10 with Betway
Rosenborg’s preparations for their big Champions League tie with Celtic could be called flawed. It’s not always the best move to sack your manager five days before a crucial game. And, having won three successive titles, they were sitting in the far-from-disastrous position of second. Kare Ingebrigtsen could be forgiven for scratching his head at the decision.
After all, he had won four of his previous five games. But the decision was made with the long-term future in mind, the chairman told the media at a press conference to break the news. Academy director Rini Coolen was placed as the interim boss and may remind his superiors of their view if they crash out. Having lost the first leg 3-1, they’re certainly on the back foot. But that away goal could get them a long way. And Celtic haven’t the best record on their travels.
No, in fact, it could be called a bad record. Of the 32 European away games they have played since the start of the 2013-14 season, just six have ended in victory. That’s a poor record. And you might think of some of the more high-profile opposition they’ve faced in recent seasons. ‘Barcelona and Man City are hardly easy trips to make,’ the average slack-cutter may say.
But you’re forgetting about the defeats to Shakhter Karagandy and Lincoln Red Imps. (Although it must be noted that one of their six wins actually came in Trondheim last season versus Rosenborg.) Brendan Rodgers has been managing the Scottish giants for a few seasons now and may be equipped to navigate his way through tricky European ties. But they’re far from straight-forward. We expect Celtic to get through but not without making their fans sweat.
Rosenborg should have their strongest team available.
Celtic will be without Jozo Simunovic, who is serving a two-game ban. Moussa Dembele is an injury doubt after missing last week’s first-leg victory.
