Cheltenham Betting Tips: Back Footpad to win the Arkle Chase in a cake walk
With just four rivals to overcome, not to mention a perfect three-from-three record over chase fences, Footpad has a fantastic chance in the ‘Arkle’ on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday.
But, despite being many people’s idea of a banker Cheltenham bet, the Irish-trained runner is currently trading at odds against at 5/4 (2.25) with Ladbrokes.
It’s a very fair price about the horse which is due to be ridden by Ruby Walsh, ‘the King of the Cheltenham Festival’. On official ratings Footpad is the best horse in the race and his last victory came under ‘hands and heels’ handling.
That race was at Leopardstown at the start of February where our Cheltenham tip defeated Petit Mouchoir by five lengths on soft ground. Once again racing off of level weights there is no reason to expect him to turn the tables on the favourite and his 3/1 odds are questionable. They look very skinny.
In fact those looking for a forecast bet alternative should probably side with Saint Calvados who is also a perfect three-from-three in novice chases winning those with ease by an average of over 13 lengths apiece.
The French-bred horse has done all his racing and winning on a soft and heavy surface which is a bonus for his supporters.
Boot home the 5/4 shot at 40’s
But Footpad is justifiably the race favourite and while 5/4 (2.25) is not a ‘get rich quick’ price, new account holders at Betfair can have their first £1 wagered at the remarkable price of 40/1 as part of their latest Cheltenham Festival promotions.
