Cheltenham Betting tip: Min to win Queen Mother Champion Chase
With the two big names in the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase – Altior and Douvan – failing to enjoy a clear run into the severest test for the leading two mile chasers it could be left to Min to pick up the pieces.
Min – 3/1 with bet365 ( 3.30pm Wednesday )
One of the most anticipated races at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival is undoubtedly the long-awaited clash between two superstars of the last couple of seasons in Altior and Douvan but things have hardly gone to plan for either horse. The latter will be having his first start since finishing lame in this race 12 months ago while the former was only given the green light to take his chance on Tuesday morning after puss was located in the gelding’s foot on Monday.
Altior reported lame but connections hopeful he will still run in Wednesday's Champion Chase https://t.co/OEUtGuXykh— Racing Post (@RacingPost) March 12, 2018
Had both horses gone to post in top form for the two mile championship contest it would have been difficult to split the talented pair but even a minor setback can prove crucial in a race of this nature and the one to take advantage may turn out to be Douvan’s stablemate Min. The only time the son of Walk In The Park has been beaten over fences was when losing the race in the steward’s room after hampering runner-up Simply Ned at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting.

The seven-year-old gained his revenge over that horse in no uncertain terms on his next start, again at Leopardstown, when coming home by twelve lengths from Nicky Richards’ charge. The only other time Min has suffered defeat since joining Willie Mullins was when finishing second to Altior in the 2016 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle ( subsequent Champion Hurdler Buveur D’Air back in third ) but with the mount of Paul Townsend enjoying a more suitable preparation has an excellent chance of turning the tables. Of the rest the 14-1 offered by Ladbrokes about Politologue looks the best each-way value should one or more of the leading fancies fail to run up to their best.
