France vs Peru preview, betting tips and prediction

One of the few favourites to avoid dropping points in their opening game, France had a nervy encounter with a spirited Australia in Kazan. Samuel Umtiti will be thanking his lucky stars that Paul Pogba’s deflected effort looped over Matthew Ryan to cancel out his moment of madness. It was the fourth World Cup that France have started off unbeaten. France are a strange beast. They have arguably the best squad in the tournament but are one or two errors away from completely losing confidence in themselves. It will be interesting to see how they handle going behind in this tournament.
Peru were unlucky in their opener. Like France, they also benefited from VAR and received a penalty in their game against Denmark. Christian Cueva blasted his spotkick over the bar before a Yussuf Poulsen goal handed Denmark all three points. Peru deserved more and will once again look capable of getting a result when they play France. They will create openings but it’s hard to know if they have attackers will the quality to take them.
A statistic worth keeping in mind is France’s recent clean sheet record. They’ve only kept one in their last seven games, the friendly win over Ireland in May.
In terms of the World Cup alone, Peru’s form is dire. They’ve failed to win any of their last seven matches on the biggest stage of all. In that light, a win over France looks unlikely.
Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele were taken off with the scores level against Australia, Olivier Giroud and Nabil Fekir on the pitch for the breakthrough. Whether they’ll be selected from the start remains to be seen. A bizarre mid-World Cup friendly against Spartak Moscow could have been dangerous but Didier Deschamps has no injury concerns.
Peru have no injury concerns going into the game.
